A Father’s Attachments

Secret Joys—

The soft skin of my

Five-year-old son

As we walk hand in hand,

His head resting

On my chest as

We sit reading a book.

His little voice

Singing as he plays

In his own world.

Secret Pain—

The day will come

When I can no longer

Hold his hand as we walk,

Kiss his forehead, and

Hear his Child Song.

Secret Fear—

The day could be

Today and it’s all

Snatched up in an

Instant.
