Being and Spacetime

August 22, 2015

Martin Heidegger held that the existential and ontological constitution of Being is grounded in temporality; but that is only partially correct. It is also grounded spatially. So, more accurately, the existential and ontological constitution of Being is grounded in Time and Space — Spacetime. Perhaps, however this is only relatively true in our own existence as finite beings whose experience as Being from birth to death is rooted in time and space. But what about the Source of Being — the Ground of Being itself? I puzzle over the Singularity, before Space and Time when all supposedly “existed” in a form smaller than a subatomic particle. Who or what “lit the fuse?” I am left to wonder that while I, as Being, am grounded in the duality of Space and Time, seeing self and other, the Source of Being — the very Ground of Being — lies beyond Spacetime in unity. Yet at the same time my very being is rooted in the Ground of Being. I “have” my being in the Source of Being — a wave in the Ocean of Being — a drop that contains the ocean. Ah the conundrum of the oxymoronic existentialist mystic!!! I think I need sleep!!!
